Some predict that we are about to transition from the information age to the experiential age with Extended Reality (XR), a term that encompasses virtual, augmented and mixed/merged reality. These nascent technologies are poised to teleport students from the classroom to new, immersive and interactive worlds. The question on the minds of most educators is whether these experiences will be novel or truly transform learning. In this session, we will discuss how XR, primarily virtual reality (VR), is likely to affect the learning landscape in terms of simulation-based learning, teaching empathy and social VR as a synchronized online learning platform.
